NYC Restaurant Week first debuted in 1992 as an event catered towards delegates and attendees of the Democratic National Convention. It drew in 95 participating restaurants its first year, but quickly also drew the attention of non-DNC-affiliated diners. In the 29 years that followed, Restaurant Week has dedicated itself to giving visitors and residents of New York City the opportunity to experience the NYC dining scene. During this week, participating restaurants offer diners lunch and/or dinner menus at lower costs than their usual fares in order to give everyone the chance to experience places and foods they have never, or dreamed of, trying; the program gives restaurants the option to opt in to certain meal periods from Monday through Friday, with Saturdays excluded and Sundays remaining optional.
This year, NYC Restaurant Week will run from July 19th through August 15th. Its prices have changed and now the program will offer the three price points of $21, $39, and $125. The $125 option, dubbed the Signature Dining Experience, will include three courses or more as well as access to exclusive enhancements and perks such as “meeting the chef, special menu items, and more,” according to their official website. Aside from pricing, this year’s Restaurant Week will also broaden its options to takeout, delivery, or both in addition to on-site dining.
